Things you should know

To help you decide whether this cover is right for you, there are some things you should know.

During the first 24 months, this Funeral Insurance only covers death by Accident. If death is Accidental, the total amount payable is equivalent to 3 times your chosen Benefit. Accidental Death is the direct result of an accident; and death occurs within 90 days of the accident.

You may cancel your Policy within 30 days from the First Premium Payment Date ("the cooling off period") if you change your mind, and receive a full refund of premiums paid.

Funeral insurance is not a savings or investment plan. This means that if you cancel your policy after the cooling off period, you won't receive any benefit or premium refund. Further, depending on how long you live, you may pay more in premiums than the amount of cover. You should consider whether funeral insurance is the best option for your situation.

What is Momentum Life Funeral Insurance?

Momentum Life Funeral Insurance is designed to help your loved ones pay for the cost of your funeral, and other final expenses. This insurance pays a Benefit to your chosen Beneficiaries when you pass away.

You can choose the Benefit you want paid to your Beneficiaries – from $3,000 up to $30,000. This Benefit is paid quickly, usually within 24 to 48 hours of receiving completed paperwork. Cover is for Accidental Death only in the first 24 months, with full cover thereafter. If death is Accidental, the total amount payable is equivalent to 3 times your chosen Benefit.

What is not covered under Momentum Life Funeral Insurance?

After the first 24 months of your cover, your chosen Funeral Benefit is paid for death by any cause. In the first 24 months we will only pay a benefit if you die as the direct result of an Accident and the death occurs within 90 days of the Accident. If death is Accidental, the total amount payable is equivalent to 3 times your chosen Benefit.

If a Life Insured dies in the first 24 months and we do not pay a Benefit, we will repay all the premiums you have paid us for that insured person, from the Cover Start Date.

How long can I keep my Funeral Insurance?

Provided you continue to pay your premiums, you can keep your Funeral Insurance for life. What’s more, once you reach age 89, you are no longer required to pay premiums, and your cover continues at no charge.

Can I cover my family under my Funeral Insurance too?

Your Funeral Insurance Policy can cover up to 4 people. These people can be you, your partner or a relative (your parent, grandparent, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, nephew, niece, natural or legally adopted child). A family discount of $150 applies annually for each additional person you cover under your policy.

What if I change my mind?

In the first 30 Days
You have a 30 day cooling-off period from your First Premium Payment Date to make sure this cover is right for you. If no claim is made during this period, you can cancel your Policy and receive a full refund of premiums paid by calling 0800 108 108, or emailing a signed cancellation letter to customercare@momentumlife.co.nz.

After the first 30 Days
You can cancel your Funeral Insurance Policy at any time by calling 0800 108 108, or emailing a signed cancellation letter to customercare@momentumlife.co.nz.

It is important to consider your insurance needs before cancelling your policy, and seek independent financial advice if you are unsure. After the first 30 days, there will be no refund of the premiums you have paid, and if you change your mind at a later date you will need to reapply for cover and the premium you are required to pay may be higher when you decide to recommence your policy.
